Hello, I just thought I'd write and let you know somebody's reading the site. I am Walter Galloway and am related to the Galloway's mentioned in the Church's minutes. Amos Ponder Galloway was brother to my gggpa Matthew A. Galloway who was the son of Wm. who was the son of Matthew in Oglethorpe County GA. who was of course the son of Tait Galloway in Ireland.
I would love to see more when you get the chance.
I haven't read everything posted thus far but will, rest assured.
Is it safe to assume the church broke up in 1871 therefore all the letters of dismissal at that time or am I mistaken?
BTW the Galloway's here are buried in a number of locations starting at Pisgah Cemetery in Brushy Creek, Tx. in Henderson/Cherokee County. w/ most recent at Holly Springs Primitive Baptist Church at Montalba, TX. Anderson County (my home) The church, (const. June 1, 1860)which still meets, and cemetery was built on land donated by my other gggpa PG.Oldham. It is my family cemetery you could say.
I haven't been a regular member in awhile but think I'll start back. I've been living out of town for several years and recently moved home (dad passed)
So, there's some real common ground with my past and your "blog"
Keep up the good work. WJG

Mr. Galloway, thanks so much for commenting. It's good to know that someone is reading the site, and am glad to find it useful. The blog works kind of funny, since the last part of the book will be first and the first last. But the minutes should probably be accessible to you now. You are correct that the church broke up in 1871. Some of the local Galloways are buried in the Laneville (Rusk Co.) Cemetery, also known as the Galloway cemetery. My Dad's first cousin married a descendant of A. P. Galloway and the family still owns the family home. I still haven't found out where the church clerk, Frank Owen Galloway, is buried.

Thanks for the information on the Galloway burials in Henderson, Cherokee and Anderson counties. I am quite familiar with the Holly Springs Church, and have attended there several times. Perhaps we might meet up there someday as we try to go from time to time.

Thank you for keeping the site up. Sion Holley and Mary Elizabeth Holleman were my great-grandparents -- so there were several names in my genealogy database that appear on your site. I shall look forward to learning more!

Thanks!!!

Phyllis, thanks for taking the time to comment. If I'm not mistaken, Mary Elizabeth was a grandaughter of Josiah John Holleman. Is that correct?

I am a g-g-g-grandson of Josiah John Holleman through his son William Arthur Holleman. I'm thinking Mary Elizabeth H. was a first cousin of my great grandfather Moody Valentine H. I guess we're a little bit kin.
